Fiberglass cloth is a composite material made by mixing materials such as fiberglass and resin. Glass fiber is an inorganic fiber, which is a filamentous substance extruded from melted glass. Its main components are inorganic substances such as silicon dioxide. Resin, on the other hand, is made by combining resin raw material molecules with free radicals through chemical reactions. Its main components are usually epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester resin, etc. When manufacturing glass fiber cloth, the glass fibers are first stretched, arranged, and then coated with resin, and subjected to high temperature and high pressure treatment to form a glass fiber cloth shape.
Glass fiber has the advantages of low density, high strength, corrosion resistance, and good thermal insulation, and is therefore widely used in various fields. When manufacturing composite materials, glass fiber can not only improve the strength and corrosion resistance of the material, but also reduce its density, making it more lightweight. In addition, glass fiber has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, strong acid and alkali resistance, which make it widely used in the industrial field. *High strength and high modulus: This is one of the most significant characteristics of fiberglass cloth. Although it originates from brittle glass, once pulled into extremely fine fibers, its strength will be greatly enhanced. After weaving into fabric, it exhibits excellent tensile strength, which means it is not easily pulled apart. Its modulus is very high, which means it is not easily deformed under stress and has good dimensional stability.
*Heat resistance and flame retardancy: Glass fiber cloth itself is an inorganic non-metallic material with high heat resistance. It does not burn and can maintain its structural integrity in high temperature environments, with a melting point typically reaching several hundred degrees Celsius or higher. This makes it an indispensable material in the fields of high-temperature insulation and fire prevention.
*Corrosion resistance: Glass fiber cloth has good resistance to most chemicals except hydrofluoric acid and concentrated alkaline solution, and is not easily corroded. This makes it highly applicable in chemical environments, wastewater treatment, and other settings.
*Electrical insulation: Glass fiber is an excellent electrical insulator and does not conduct electricity. The fabric woven from it also has good electrical insulation properties and is widely used in the electronic and electrical industry for circuit boards, insulation sleeves, etc.
*Dimensional stability and resistance to creep: Under normal temperature and usage conditions, glass fiber cloth hardly absorbs moisture and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, so its shape and size are minimally affected by changes in environmental temperature and humidity. It also has strong resistance to slow deformation (i.e. creep) under long-term loads.
